Directrices para autores/as

Authors can submit any form of writing that suits their work. We have no minimum word count but suggest to not extend above 8,000 words (excluding references).

While we expect you to adhere to academic standards like referencing, there is no rule which referencing system you ought to use as long as it is consistent within the text. Regarding ethics permission for any research involving humans, we advise you to adhere to good ethical guidelines e.g. those set out by BERA (follow link here).

If you are interested in submitting something more experimental please get in touch with the editors and the description of your idea. We would welcome visual or multimedia representations with accompanying critical narratives.

We would encourage authors to use inbuilt heading styles but otherwise not to include unnecessary formatting. Don't forget all figures and tables should have a title.

oSoTL is an online journal, so images used in figures don't need to be high resolution (a printed journal might ask for 300 dpi resolution, for example).  All images must be easily readable on a screen. Usually a resolution of 72 dpi is sufficient for display on screen, but factors such as the image dimensions and compression will have an impact on readability.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • All contributing authors have been added via the journal system. Note that it is not possible to add authors following publication.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
